Will Holt and Charles Strouse presented an evening of remembrance at Deertrees Theatre on July 21 and 22, 2006. The performances were a benefit for the Seeds of Peace Camp in Otisfield, Maine. Will Holt is a Maine native who wrote "Lemon Tree" and "Raspberries, Strawberries". Charles Strouse is the composer of "Bye, Bye, Birdie" and "Annie". The evening was filled with song and remembrances of their lives as composers. Those Were the Days... Will Holt: Wrote "Lemon Tree" and "Raspberries, Strawberries," popularized "Charlie and the MTA." Wrote, directed, and performed in the hit The World of Kurt Weill. Broadway credits: The Me Nobody Knows (Obie Award, Drama Desk Award, Tony nominations for Best Score and Best Musical), Taking My Turn (Obie Award, Drama Desk Award), Me and Bessie (Outer Critics Circle Award), Platinum, Music Is, and Over Here. Other credits include A Walk on the Wild Side (Los Angeles Dramalogue Award) and Jack. Appeared at Deertrees with one-man shows A Little Out of the Light (2003) and A Little More Out of the Light (2004). Most recent work in production was Broadway Man (2004), a musical based on the life of Al Jolson. Charles Strouse: Broadway credits: Bye Bye Birdie (Tony Award, Best Musical), Applause (Tony, Best Musical), Annie (Tony, Best Score, two Grammy Awards), Tony nominations for Best Score for Charlie and Algernon, Rags, and Nick and Nora. Wrote "Those Were the Days" (theme song of TV show "All in the Family"). Composed the scores to several films, including Bonnie & Clyde, Just Tell Me What You Want, and All Dogs Go to Heaven. Two musical debuts in 2005 (Real Men and You Never Know). Works in progress include musical adaptations of Marty, The Night They Raided Minsky's, and An American Tragedy. Member of Theater Hall of Fame and Songwriter's Hall of Fame. Aaron Hagan, who is allegedly capable of naming any Mozart concerto after hearing three bars, has been a musical director for Will and Charles for years. Deertrees audiences may remember his stunning piano solo from A Little Out of the Light. Seeds of Peace is dedicated to empowering young leaders from regions of conflict with the leadership skills required to advance reconciliation and coexistence. Founded in 1993 and located in Otisfield, the program focuses on the Middle East but also includes young leaders from South Asia, Cyprus, and the Balkans. Since its inception, it has reached nearly 2,500 young leaders from these troubled regions.
